The Bharathiar University was established at Coimbatore by the Government of Tamil Nadu in February, 1982 under the provision of the Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act 1 of 1982). In May, 1985 the University received the recognition from University Grants Commission (UGC) New Delhi for the purpose of grants.

The University named after the great national poet Subramania Bharathi is enshrined with the motto "Educate to Elevate". The University is situated at the backdrop of Maruthamalai Hills in the Western Ghat range, in a sprawling campus of 1000 acres of land. 15 kms. from the City of Coimbatore. As of now the University has 119 affiliated colleges, 81 Arts and Science Colleges, 30 are Colleges of Education, 7 Management institutions and 1 Air Force Administration College. In addition, there are 19 Research Institutes of the State and Central Governments, which are recognized by this University for research purpose. And all these institutions cater to the educational needs of more than 1,50,000 students and research scholars.

The Act section 25 of chapter XIV empowers the syndicate to enter into an agreement with Central and State Governments and Private Managements apart from specified purpose any other purpose not repugnant to the provision of this act and also empowers to institute university Centers. Accordingly the Syndicate of the University in its meeting held on 24.12.2007 has approved to establish interaction with industry o undertake and conduct courses under University Industry Interaction Programmes and later, the syndicate in its meeting held on 23.6.08 established the CENTRE FOR COLLABORATION OF INDUSTRY AND INSTITUTIONS (CCII) as a constituent to identify and approve institutions to offer various Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses as Distance Learning Programme and various Certificate, Diploma, P G Diploma, Advanced Diploma courses as Approved Institution Programmes under Centre for Collaboration of Industry and Institutions Programmes utilizing their faculties and facilities.


RAVIRAJ INSTITUTE FOR ART & CULTURE, Coimbatore is one of the pioneer institutions totally committed to promoting the essence of Art Education. Started way back in 1992, the institution today has carved a niche for itself through its exemplary performance in these disciplines.

Lalit Kalakshetra is headed by Mr. Raviraj, an acclaimed and versatile personality. Mr. Raviraj, Recipient of various National and State awards for his contribution in Art, has also authored many art books.

Lalit kalakshetra dedicated to the development of Art & Design, Music, Dance and Crafts. Well equipped with Studios, Labs, Library and workshops required to sharpen the brilliant minds.

The University, as approved by the Syndicate of the University has decided to recognize LALIT KALAKSHETRA, Raviraj Institute for Art & Culture as an Approved Institution Programme Centre and Distance Learning Programme Centre for conducting specific practical / Degree courses.

Eligibility: There is no Age limit for admission
I. B.F.A - A pass in +2 or an examination accepted as equivalent to plus two or Diploma in Art or Dance from any recognised institution like Lalit Kalakshetra
II. P.G.Diploma (Painting / Bharathanatyam) Any Bachelor Degree from a recognised University with a fundamental knowledge of Art or Dance or 3 years Diploma in Fine Arts
III. Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts - A pass in +2 or an examination accepted as equivalent to plus two

Duration of the Programme:
I. B.F.A - 3 Years
II. P.G.Diploma (Painting / Bharathanatyam) - One Year
III. Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts - Two Years
(In any case the course will have to be completed within a maximum period of five years after the entry into the course)
